Nwachukwu 'Proud' Of Heartland 'Fighting Spirit' In Big Win Versus Gombe Utd; Charges Players Ahead Bayelsa Utd Trip
BY SAB OSUJI
Promise Nwachukwu, a former Nigeria junior International and now General Manager of Heartland FC, walked out of Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, on Sunday, with smiles buried in between emotions after his Naze Millionaires subdued Gombe United 3-0 in a Match Day 33 fixture of the resumed 2023/2024 NPFL season.
Faced with potential relegation, the five time Nigeria champions rolled up their sleeves to serve out a decent performance that not only fetched them a huge win, but also added impetus to the desire and clamour of their supporters to swim ashore the dreaded relegation waters.
Besides, Nwachukwu was pleased that some lovers of the club, friends and ex players are now coming around to support and motivate the team.
Such was the atmosphere on the Sunday afternoon that Nwachukwu left the stadium hoping the team would replicate the performance against Bayelsa United this weekend in Yenagoa and in all the remaining five games from hence.
"I'm proud of the win today. I'm happy with the level of performance the players displayed on the pitch. And I believe if we keep it this way in the remaining five) matches, especially beginning, with our next match away to Bayelsa Utd, we'll have a joyful song to sing at the end of the day", Nwachukwu opined.
"They fought hard and well on the pitch. It reflected in the eventual outcome. If we keep doing well like this, winning all our remaining (five) matches, why not?.
"It's never over until its really over. We're Heartland, we've heart and we'll never give up. By the grace of God, we'll achieve our target which is to fight to retain our Premiership status", the fair skinned lanky Heartland GM sounded.
