The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Refereeing Committee has slammed an indefinite suspension on referee Nyah Victor of the Akwa Ibom State Refereeing Council following his controversial decision in an NNL fixture between Rovers FC and Ekiti United in Calabar.

 

Victor came under scrutiny after awarding what has been described as a “questionable and unjustified penalty” during the encounter, a decision the committee said violated the Laws of the Game and had a direct negative impact on the outcome of the match.

 

In a letter signed by the Committee Chairman, Mohammed Ameenu, and forwarded through the Akwa Ibom State Football Association—while also copied to the NFF President, Secretary General, and the NNL Chairman—the committee strongly condemned the referee’s conduct.

 

“Our investigation discovered that you awarded an unjustified penalty in the match between Rovers FC and Ekiti United. Your action did not only negatively affect the outcome of the match but equally brings the game to disrepute,” the statement read.

 

The committee concluded that, as a consequence of this breach, Referee Nyah Victor has been indefinitely stepped down from all league and other officiating duties.

 

The decision underscores the NFF’s renewed commitment to improving officiating standards across domestic leagues and ensuring fairness and integrity in Nigerian football.
