Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has disclosed that his 2012 breakthrough hit "Dami Duro" once served as the ringtone for then-Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a recent interview with Power 105.1 FM in the United States, the singer revealed this presidential connection marked a turning point in his father's acceptance of his music career.

"My dad accepted my decision to do music after he heard my second single, 'Dami Duro.' The song blew up," Davido explained. "I think it was the President's ringtone. Someone told me."

Prior to the song's success, Davido's father, business magnate Deji Adeleke, had actively opposed his son's musical ambitions. "Before then, my dad was using the police and army to stop my show and arrest show promoters, artists and everyone connected to any show I am billed to perform in," the singer recalled.

The presidential endorsement, along with the song's widespread popularity, changed everything. "At that point, people started advising my dad to allow me do music," Davido said.

The singer also mentioned that he eventually agreed to return to school, helping to mend his relationship with his father. "Now, we are best friends, we talk about everything. He comes to all my shows. He is very involved in my business," Davido added, highlighting their reconciliation.

"Dami Duro" remains one of the defining tracks of Davido's career, helping to establish him as a leading figure in the global Afrobeats movement.
