In what has been a fairly underwhelming campaign for Abia Comets in the ongoing NNL season, where they have failed to establish a super 8 play-off spot with one match week to go, but comets can perhaps take solace in the emergence of young forward Ebuka Laz who has shone brightly for the Umuahia based side all season.

The pacy forward has scored four goals and and racked up three assists in 17 matches for Abia Comets including two in his last two outings where fellow NNL campaigners Abeokuta Stormers wouldn't forget his name in a hurry having dealt with them in both fixtures as he registered heart-breaking goals iced with individual brilliance against the Abeokuta based outfit both at ikenne and back home in Umuahia.

His remarkable influence was felt in April against Coal City in Enugu when he came on as a substitute and subsequently providing the much needed assist for his side to level matters though the leveller wasn't enough as Coal City FC eventually pulled off a late winner to earn the bragging rights.

His consistency continued against Edel FC at home in umuahia where he left couple of defenders rolling at their knees as he got the opener for the coach Paul Ejeh led outift in a contest where spoils where later shared as the visitors eventually restored parity against the run of play.

A blisteringly quick, direct and a nightmare for opposing defenders, it's not necessarily a surprise that he has been compared to world class talent Cristiano Ronaldo but there's a way to go in that department yet, However he is very similar to the way a younger Neymar played at Barcelona: picking up the ball before turning and storming towards the opposition goal, often leaving defenders looking very silly in his wake, testament to the beauty he scored at ikenne in December against Abeokuta Stormers.

Reports suggest that the 19-year-old could be available in the summer for a friendly price tag, which for a player of his level and potential is a worthwhile bargain.

Ebuka Laz's current performance level dictates that he is one of the best and the most sought after young prodigy in the Nigerian football space.

As the relegation threatened Ekiti United makes the much talked about visit to Umuahia this weekend in the last match of the season, the deadly form of Ebuka Laz should be a reason for concern for coach Ayodeji Ayeni and his beleaguered Ekiti United side.
