NNL Banish Gateway FC To Benin
Nigeria National League (NNL) has compelled Gateway United Football Club of Abeokuta ,Ogun state to move to Benin City , Edo State capital for violating security rules.
It means the Club will play the rest of its home no more at the MKO Abiola Stadium but now at the Samuel Ogbemudia State in the ancient Benin Kingdom South West Nigeria, starting with their match day 20 with Crown Football of Oshogbo.
Official reports indicted irate supporters of the Ogun State Outfit for attacking match officials and injuring the referees because of insufficient security provided in their match day 18(Eighteen) in Conference B of the current NNL season with Ikorodu United on Saturday 13 April, 2024.
Gateway United consequently are to pay the sum of N1, 100. 000.00 (One Million and aone hundred Naira ) for breach of laid down security rules and for the medicals of the referees attacked .
Chief Operating Officer of NNL Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman condemned the ungoly acts of Gateway United supporters in a strong message to Gateway have asked them to produce and prosecute the assailants and as well provide evidence of prosecuting the assailants to NNL or face further sanctions.
The Conference B day 18 tie ended goalless. Ikorodu City currently lead the Conference log with 27 points while, Gateway United are in 5th place with 23 points.
