The Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Barau I. Jibrin, was among the enthusiastic crowd at Dambatta Stadium, Kano, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, as Barau FC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sokoto United in their Nigerian National League (NNL) matchday five clash.

Barau FC, nicknamed the Maliya Boys, edged past their rivals, the Caliphate Boys, with a decisive goal in the 50th minute. Okeke Ekechikwu’s strike, assisted by Najib Yusuf, secured the team’s first win of the 2024/25 NNL season.

Dr. Barau I. Jibrin, a staunch supporter of the team, joined thousands of fans at the stadium, cheering on the Maliya Boys in their spirited performance.

Interim Technical Adviser Rabi’u Tata lauded the players’ efforts after the victory:
“I am very happy with this result. The new players made us proud with their exceptional performance. We’ll stay focused on building momentum for upcoming matches.”

Barau FC now set their sights on matchday six, traveling to Birnin Kebbi to face Zamfara United at the FIFA Goal Project Stadium on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

The Barau FC Media Department expressed optimism, noting that the victory is a strong step forward for the team’s ambitions in the 2024/25 NNL campaign.
