Nigerian Afrobeats artists continue to dominate the international music scene as they secure multiple nominations for the prestigious 2025 BET Awards, further cementing the genre's global influence.

Leading the Nigerian contingent is Mavin Records' rising star Ayra Starr, who garnered an impressive three nominations across major categories: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. This remarkable achievement underscores her rapid ascent in the global music industry since her breakthrough.

Grammy winner Tems has secured two nominations in the BET Her category for her powerful tracks "Burning" and "Hold On" from her debut album "Born In The Wild." The recognition highlights her growing influence as both an artist and a voice for women's empowerment through music.

The Nigerian wave extends beyond these two female powerhouses, with established stars Burna Boy and Rema earning nominations alongside newcomer Shallipopi, who appears in the Best New International Act category.

"The strong Nigerian presence at this year's awards demonstrates how Afrobeats has transcended cultural boundaries to become a global phenomenon," said industry analyst James Thompson. "These artists aren't just representing Nigeria—they're reshaping international music trends."

On the global front, American rap icon Kendrick Lamar leads all nominees with ten nods, followed by Doechii, Future, GloRilla, and Drake with six nominations each. Other multiple nominees include Metro Boomin, SZA, and The Weeknd.

The African footprint extends beyond Nigeria, with South Africa's Tyla and Uncle Waffles, Ghana's Black Sherif, and Tanzania's Abigail Chams all receiving nominations in various categories.

The winners will be revealed during the live ceremony on June 9 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, broadcast on BET.
