The leadership of the Nigeria Ski Sports Association has called up a total of 45 Roller-Skiing athletes from different parts of the country for an open camp, in readiness for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

Head of the association, Mr Olubunmi Gabriel disclosed that an open camp at the Moshood Abiola national stadium is organized at intervals of three months to gather points and prepare athletes for the impending task of qualifying for the winter games.

He said, because Nigeria is not a country that witnesses snow falls, they practice the discipline of Roller-Ski at their training ground.

Speaking further, Mr Olubunmi said beyond qualifying and competing at the global championship, their target is to also get the attention of young individuals who are willing to commit to the sports, even as they've started the campaign of introducing the sport to different universities across the country.

"This is our training camp at the Abuja national stadium on Roller Ski because we don't have snow in Nigeria, so we do practice the discipline of Ski Sports which they call Roller-Ski"

"This is our open camp, we have about 45 athletes from different states across Nigeria that are in camp in preparation for a world championship  and to get points to qualify for the winter Olympic games in Italy"

"We conduct this training camp every 3 months in Abuja, so we are also introducing the Ski Sports to a lot of universities so that we can catch up a lot of young people and educate them about Ski Sports" he stated.
