Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, has expressed concern that Nigeria is experiencing a decline when compared to other nations that gained independence around the same time.

In a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday, Obi reflected on the country's 64 years of independence, noting that despite taking charge of its own future, Nigeria's development has stagnated.

He emphasized that Independence Day should serve as a time for sober reflection for all Nigerians, particularly leaders, whose decisions, he believes, have played a role in the nation’s current state.

"As the saying goes, an unexamined life is not worth living," Obi wrote. "We must, therefore, examine ourselves in light of our nation's journey over the past six decades."
