Nigeria Celebrates 64th Independence Anniversary with Golf Tournament
The 2024 Nigeria Independence anniversary golf tournament teed off on Tuesday, bringing together over 250 amateur golfers to compete in the 18-hole event. Organized by the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, the tournament aimed to unite people from diverse backgrounds through sports.
Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of unity and perseverance in achieving success. He noted that Nigeria's sports history has been a mix of successes and failures, but celebrating the country's 64th Independence anniversary is a testament to its resilience.
Dame Pauline Tallen, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and Joe-Kyari Gadzama echoed Enoh's sentiments, highlighting the tournament's ability to bring people together despite political differences.
IBB International Golf and Country Club Captain, Ibrahim Babayo, praised the event for showcasing Nigeria's unique brand to the world, while Organizing Committee Chairman, Dr. James Agbonhese, confirmed that the tournament's objectives had been met.
The week-long event concludes with the announcement of winners and an Independence anniversary cake-cutting ceremony.
