The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have pledged to collaborate on the African Schools Football Championship, aiming to upgrade sporting infrastructure in Nigerian schools and discover new talents.

NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, met with UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, to discuss the partnership. Gusau highlighted the benefits of the championship, including a $1 million prize for the winning school to improve football infrastructure.

The NFF and UBEC plan to expand the competition's scope, involving more schools and increasing Nigeria's chances of winning. The Nigeria School Sports Federation will conduct state preliminaries this month, with the WAFU-B Tournament scheduled for Niger Republic in November.

Dr. Bobboyi praised the NFF's initiative, acknowledging the infrastructural deficit in Nigerian schools. He committed UBEC's support to the project, emphasizing the importance of sports in children's physical and mental development.

This collaboration aims to restore standard facilities and equipment in schools, unearth talents, and safeguard the future of sports in Nigeria.
