NBB of C set for coaches' seminar as international referee / judge arrives ..Ladipo, Aboderin others beam with confidence
All is now set for the much anticipated three day international boxing seminar for coaches slated for the Media Centre of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from December 23-25 following the arrival of
international Referee/ Judge, Belgian Daniel Van De Wiele who will serve as the chief resource person.
Speaking to journalists on arrival in the country, Van De Wiele who has been a referee since 1980 and WBC referee/ judge since 1993 noted that he's happy coming to Nigeria to share his experiences with the coaches; saying he hope, they'll learn a lot from him during the seminar.
According to the well travelled referee/ judge who covered one of Bash Ali's fight, he has prepared himself for a very long seminar which will be beneficial to the coaches and managers as they prepare their fighters to be among the best in the world.
" This is my first time of coming to Nigeria and I feel very happy to be here. In the course of the seminar, I'll try to share some of my experiences and mistakes with the participants and am sure that at the end of the seminar, they'll learn a lot.
Welcoming him, President of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) Dr. Rafiu Ladipo noted that it's not easy bringing such an experienced world renowned and well travelled referee/ judge to the country positing that Nigerian boxers, coaches, managers and promoters will benefit immensely from his wealth of experience.
" We're happy to bring such an experienced person to come and talk to our coaches which is a very rare opportunity and I hope they will gain a lot from him.
Ladipo was full of praises to De Lads Boxing Promotions and United States of America based Nigerian boxing champion, Abimbola Osundairo for their financial support towards bringing the Belgian to the country .
Also speaking, Secretary General of. NBB of C, Remi Aboderin who also doubles as President of West African Boxing Union (WABU) noted that the seminar is part of the board's efforts at making Nigerian coaches gain more experience in their job as well as get acquainted with the most modern techniques of coaching, promising that with more support, the board will have more of such seminars in future aimed at improving the coaches fortune.
In their separate remarks, Chief Executive Officer of De Lads Boxing Promotions, Alhaji Wasiu Waheed Alade and ABU boxing champion based in Chicago, United States, Abimbola Osundairo all expressed happiness with the seminar ; saying that Nigerian coaches have a lot to benefit from it.
" This seminar is important because it will help in improving the performance of our coaches. It will also enable them know where they're getting it wrong as well as why we as managers are not doing well", they said.
Highlights of his welcome was presentation of NBB of C branded shirts to him and the boards identity card that qualifies him to officiate fights in Nigeria
Meanwhile, according to a statement by the NBB of C, there will also be a
corner care and professional and handwraps wash workshop to be handled by international technical officer, Coach Yinka Adeoti.
The statement further explained that the seminar will incorporate refereeing, scoring, judging and boxing rules ( Dos and Don’ts) in the ring.
The seminar which kicks off today from 2.30-5.30pm. continues on December, 24 between the hours of 11am- 3pm while there will be a boxing show thereafter from 5pm- 10pm.
On December, 25th, there will be weigh-in for Flykite Boxing Promotions from 10.30-1pm with the seminar round up/ certificates for participants slated for 11am- 2.30pm after which there will be an evening with Nigeria Pro boxing stakeholders/ awards slated for 5pm.
