NPFL 25: Dogo Says Nasarawa United’s Win Over Kano Pillars Surprised Everyone

Nasarawa United coach Kabiru Dogo remarked that few expected his team to defeat Kano Pillars in their Matchday 9 clash of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

The Solid Miners achieved a remarkable 1-0 victory at the packed Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, with Anas Yusuf scoring the decisive goal in the 40th minute. This marked his ninth goal in as many games this season.

With this win, Nasarawa United climbed to 8th in the league table with 12 points, while Kano Pillars fell to 12th place with 11 points.

“We are very pleased with this victory, our second at home this season. It’s a significant achievement for everyone in Nasarawa State,” Dogo said.

“This result was unexpected, especially given the wealth of experienced players Kano Pillars fielded, like Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, and Rabiu Ali (Pele). We are grateful to have secured the win.”

Dogo acknowledged that his team could have scored more, stating, “We dominated the match and missed several clear chances, but we’re content with the one-goal win, which gives us three important points.”

Looking ahead, he noted that their next match is against Rangers in Enugu next weekend. “We plan to approach that game with focus and determination.”

The Solid Miners will face the reigning champions, Rangers International, who are currently in 11th place, at the Cathedral Stadium in Enugu on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
