Sunday Megwo proved to be Kwara United’s nemesis once more, scoring the decisive goal that led Abia Warriors to a well-earned 1-0 victory in the rescheduled Matchday 6 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League. The match took place at Umuahia Township Stadium after heavy rains forced a postponement from its original date of October 12, 2024.

Following discussions among the Match Commissioner, Mr. Edema Fuludu, the match officials, league organizers, and representatives from both clubs, it was decided to play the match on Sunday, October 13, 2024, with an 8 AM kickoff.

Abia Warriors’ coach, Imama Amapakabo, made a single change to the lineup that previously lost to Rangers, bringing in Daniel Ekpo in place of Ayodele Ezekiel.

The match lived up to expectations, offering an entertaining and thrilling spectacle. Initially, Kwara United, managed by former Abia Warriors assistant coach Tunde Sani, took control, with Shola Abdulraheem pulling the strings in midfield. Despite their early dominance, they struggled to create clear goal-scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Abia Warriors gradually found their rhythm, with Sunday Megwo posing a constant threat to the visitors’ defense.

The first half concluded without goals, but the fans were thoroughly engaged by the competitive nature of the match.

In the second half, Abia Warriors turned up the intensity, launching a series of attacks while Kwara United absorbed the pressure. In the 62nd minute, Amapakabo made crucial substitutions, bringing on Emmanuel Onu and Ayodele Ezekiel for Paul Sampson and Daniel Ekpo. It was Ezekiel who set up the winning goal twelve minutes later.

A well-placed freekick from deep in Kwara United’s half was perfectly squared by Ezekiel, allowing Sunday Megwo to leap above the defense and head the ball into the net, marking his second goal of the season.

This goal also marked Megwo’s second consecutive scoring performance against Kwara United, having found the net in the previous season as well.

In an attempt to salvage a point, coach Tunde Sani made sweeping substitutions, but Abia Warriors maintained control of the match, confidently managing the game until the final whistle.
