Mavlon FC of Lagos has continued to distinguish itself as a model football academy where talent development on the pitch goes hand in hand with academic advancement, reinforcing its reputation as a dual-pathway institution for young athletes.

 

The club’s commitment to education remains a core pillar of its philosophy, according to its chairman, Barrister Kenneth Agadugba, who emphasized that nurturing the minds of young footballers is just as important as honing their skills.

 

“We know the importance of education. It is a step in the right direction, and we do everything we can to ensure our young footballers are not just about football, but also develop the brain for the task of managing every aspect of life, both as active players and in retirement,” Agadugba said.

 

He revealed that many players at the Lagos-based academy are beneficiaries of educational scholarships, reflecting the club’s broader mission to produce not only future professionals on the field but also innovative thinkers capable of excelling in technology and other sectors.

 

“It is not out of place to train footballers who will not only become professionals in the future, but also combine the honours of being technology brain-boxes in the world,” he noted. “Here, we explore the options of football and education, especially as the players are also brilliant academically.”

 

Mavlon FC’s success stories include Charles Agada and Cletus Simon, both alumni of the academy who went on to represent Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, having been developed under the institution’s dual-track system of football and education.

 

Agadugba encouraged young talents across the country to prioritize their academics even as they chase professional football dreams. “For every talented footballer out there, I admonish them not to abandon education. If the opportunity is there, they should combine football with education.”
