ACLSports’ Chief Correspondent to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Mary Akinsola, is on the verge of being confirmed as the new Media Officer for Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons.

 

Akinsola, a highly regarded and cerebral sports media professional, brings over a decade of experience in sports journalism, communication, and public relations to the role. She recently returned to Nigeria after earning a Master’s degree in International Sports Journalism from St Mary’s University, London.

 

Her appointment comes at a critical time for the Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national football team, who have been without a substantive media lead since the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. That tournament marked the end of Ms. Oluchi Tobe-Chukwu’s four-year tenure in the role.

 

Akinsola’s impressive resume spans both broadcast and digital media, with career highlights including her position as Production Communications Manager at Eurosport. Prior to that, she worked with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan and served as an editor at Sports Gazette in the United Kingdom.
