Lawyer Dammy Esquire Warns Men on Continuous Consent, Says “Stop Means Stop”

A Nigerian lawyer, popularly known as Dammy Esquire, has cautioned men on the importance of respecting consent during intimate moments, warning that ignoring a partner’s request to stop could result in serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.

The legal practitioner shared the warning via her account on X, formerly known as Twitter. In her post, she stressed that consent must be continuous throughout any intimate encounter and can be withdrawn at any time.

According to her, once a partner clearly says “stop” during an intimate act, the other person is both legally and morally obligated to halt immediately. She explained that continuing after consent has been withdrawn may be regarded as rape under the law, even if the activity initially began with mutual agreement.

Dammy Esquire noted that many people wrongly assume that consent given at the start of an encounter automatically remains valid until the end. She warned that such misconceptions could expose individuals to serious legal trouble.

She further emphasized that engaging in sexual activity without ongoing consent carries severe legal consequences, including the possibility of criminal charges and imprisonment if found guilty.

Advising individuals to always respect personal boundaries, the lawyer underscored that consent must be freely given, clearly communicated, and continuously maintained throughout any intimate interaction. She added that mutual respect and open communication remain essential foundations in any healthy relationship.
