A high-powered delegation of the Labour Party (LP), led by Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, visited the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday to engage the Commission on recent leadership developments within the party.

 

The highlight of the visit was the formal submission of a Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the party’s leadership. Governor Otti said the move was intended to “foster clarity, mutual understanding, and institutional alignment” regarding the current structure of the Labour Party.

 

The delegation was received by INEC’s Acting Chairman, Mr. Sam Olumekun, along with other National Commissioners. Both sides held deliberations focused on strengthening collaboration and reinforcing democratic principles.

 

In his remarks, Mr. Olumekun reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to neutrality, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law, stressing the Commission’s readiness to work with all registered political parties within the bounds of its constitutional mandate.

 

The visit comes amid internal leadership disputes in the Labour Party, which the Supreme Court ruling has now addressed, offering a clearer direction for the party’s national leadership moving forward.
