Kwara United FC made history on Saturday as they won their first-ever President Federation Cup title, edging out Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties after a tense goalless draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

 

The victory not only secured the prestigious trophy for the Harmony Boys but also came with a cash prize of ₦50 million and a coveted spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, marking a significant milestone in the club’s history.

 

The final was a tightly contested affair, with both sides failing to break the deadlock in 90 minutes. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Kwara United held their nerve to emerge champions, sparking jubilant celebrations among fans and stakeholders.

Runners-up Abakaliki FC, who impressed many with their fairytale run to the final, will receive ₦20 million in prize money for their valiant effort.

 

In the women’s category, Rivers Angels reclaimed their dominance by defeating Nasarawa Amazons in a thrilling final. The Port Harcourt-based side was rewarded with ₦25 million for their performance, while the Amazons took home the runners-up prize.

 

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) praised the standard of play and the professionalism displayed throughout the tournament, noting that the 2025 edition of the Federation Cup had raised the bar in both competitiveness and organization.
