Preparations for the 2026 edition of the Kids Soccer League (KSL) gained significant momentum on Saturday following a successful player screening exercise held at Eden Gardens.

 

The event drew participation from five teams and provided an early platform for assessing young football talents ahead of the new league season. The screening exercise was supervised by former Nigeria U-20 coach, Bala Nikyu, alongside Chairman of the FCT Coaches Association, Bartholomew David, whose presence added technical depth and credibility to the process.

 

Young players showcased their abilities with enthusiasm as coaches and officials closely evaluated prospects expected to feature prominently when the league kicks off later in the year.

 

Although some registered teams were unable to attend, organizers confirmed that additional screening sessions would be conducted to ensure inclusivity and adequate preparation for all participants.

 

A major highlight of the exercise was the support from Gospel Promoters, whose General Manager, Abraham, donated three footballs to each participating team. The gesture was widely applauded as a meaningful boost to grassroots football development and team readiness.

 

Founder of the initiative, former Super Eagles midfielder Femi Ajilore, expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the league since its inception five years ago. He noted that the KSL was established to provide a structured pathway for youth football development within the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Ajilore further highlighted the growing interest from stakeholders, sponsors, and media organizations, pointing to coverage by Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other sports platforms as evidence of the league’s expanding profile.

 

“The enthusiasm from the children and the commitment from coaches and partners show that grassroots football initiatives like this are making a difference,” he said, expressing confidence that the 2026 edition will be even more impactful.

 

Organizers also reaffirmed their openness to partnerships with individuals and organizations willing to support youth sports, stressing that collaboration remains key to nurturing the next generation of football talents in Nigeria.

 

With preparations now in full swing, attention turns to the official kickoff of the 2026 season, as teams and young players anticipate another exciting chapter in grassroots football development.
