The Kebbi State Government has commenced preparations for a mass wedding involving 300 couples, scheduled to take place on February 27.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, announced the initiative in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, stating that the event is being organized in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).

 

As part of the preparations, various committees have been set up to conduct medical screenings, including pregnancy tests, genotype compatibility tests, and HIV/AIDS tests, in compliance with legal marriage requirements in the state.

 

Argungu emphasized that the mass wedding fulfills a promise made by Governor Nasir Idris during the last such event, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting underprivileged individuals in getting married.

• The state government will provide N180,000 in dowry for each bride.

• A total of N54 million has been allocated for all 300 couples across the 21 Local Government Areas.

• In addition to the dowry, household essentials such as furniture and food supplies will be provided to help the couples start their new lives.

 

The initiative aims to ease the financial burden of marriage for low-income individuals while promoting family stability in the state.
