Nigerian forward Joy Omewa marked her Nottingham Forest Women debut with a goal, but it was not enough to prevent a heavy 5–1 loss to Birmingham City Women in their Women’s Championship encounter on Sunday.

 

Omewa found the back of the net in the 45th minute to draw Forest level just before halftime, capping an impressive personal start in her first appearance for the club. However, Birmingham City took firm control after the break, scoring four unanswered goals to secure a comprehensive victory.

 

The 23-year-old striker recently completed a permanent move from Danish giants Fortuna Hjørring, signing a deal that will keep her at Nottingham Forest until the end of the 2025/26 season.

 

Omewa arrived in England with an enviable scoring pedigree following a prolific spell in Denmark, where she netted 52 goals in 85 league appearances. During her time with Fortuna Hjørring, she won the Danish Women’s Cup twice and played a key role in the club’s league title triumph in the 2024/25 season.

 

Despite the disappointing result for Nottingham Forest, Omewa’s immediate impact in front of goal stands out as a positive for the club. The Super Falcons forward is expected to bolster Forest’s attacking options as the season progresses, with her debut strike offering a glimpse of what she can bring to the side.
