Nigeria international Joy Omewa continued her remarkable rise in European football, scoring the decisive goal that sent Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring through to the third round of the 2025/26 UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

 

Omewa’s 58th-minute strike proved the difference as Fortuna edged Swiss outfit BSC Young Boys 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter on Saturday. The 22-year-old forward showcased her attacking instinct, finding space in the box to calmly slot home what would be the game’s only goal.

 

Omewa, who started the match and was substituted in the 83rd minute for Japan’s Risako Watanabe, delivered yet another influential performance — reinforcing her growing reputation as one of the standout players in the Danish league.

 

The former Confluence Queens striker is building on a stellar 2024/25 season, during which she was named Danish League Player of the Year and finished as top scorer. Her current form suggests she is well on track to replicate, if not surpass, those achievements on the European stage.
