Johnny Drille Reflects on How Fatherhood Deepened His Appreciation for His Parents
Nigerian musician John Ighodaro, known professionally as Johnny Drille, recently shared his thoughts on how becoming a father has transformed his perspective on family and parenthood.
The singer, who welcomed daughter Amaris Esohe Ighodaro with his wife Rima Tahini in November 2023, described parenthood as a profoundly life-altering experience during an interview with Dose Of Society.
"The one rule I live by is family first," Drille explained. "I would abandon anything I'm doing anywhere in the world if my family needs me urgently."
The artist emphasized how his family has consistently provided emotional support throughout his career. "Every time I got overwhelmed by the world around me, I always run back to family. And it all felt better," he shared, adding that his greatest aspiration is to care for his parents and enable them to travel globally.
Drille recalled his childhood experiences with newfound appreciation, noting how his parents managed during financially challenging times. "My parents didn't have much. I remember it was really hard sometimes and we wouldn't have food to eat, but they would figure out a way to provide for us," he reflected.
He expressed how his parents created positive environments despite difficulties, something he now recognizes as their effort to protect their children from hardship. "They made it fun for us. Back then it looked fun, but now when I think about it, I just know they were trying to shield us from a lot of things."
The singer acknowledged how fatherhood has deepened his understanding of parental sacrifice. "Now I have a daughter and I understand what it feels like to be able to nurture someone. Right now, I appreciate my parents even more for what they did for me and my siblings," he stated, concluding that the profound impact of having a child "isn't discussed enough" while expressing gratitude for his parents' guidance through life's challenges.
