International day of the girl child: Foundation urges protection of the girl- child against sexual abuse
Dr. Joy Osaro Onaiwu Foundation,a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) leading in advocacy for women and children's rights, has called on women leaders and relevant stakeholders to strengthen protections for the girl child against sexual abuse in schools and workplaces.
,Dr Joy Osaro Onaiwu, Founder/CEO of the foundation made the appeal via a statement, she personally signed on Friday in Abuja
"As we commemorate today we emphasize the urgent need to safeguard our girls from exploitation," said Dr. Joy Osaro Onaiwu, Founder. "Education and career aspirations should not come with risks of harassment or assault."

She said, " Education and career aspirations should not come with risks of harassment or assault."
"Nigeria records approximately 10,000 reported cases of sexual abuse annually, with girls being disproportionately affected.
"We urge educational institutions to implement robust anti-abuse policies,it is imperative for law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute offenders.
"Also ,the government should enact and enforce more stringent laws for offenders and make them serve such punishments after such offences.
The Dr Joy Osaro Onaiwu foundation has been in this advocacy over the years and we are reiterating commitment to free counselling and support for survivors and equally reaching out with advocacy for policy reforms .
She stated that communities need more enlightenment to promote awareness and support to vulnerable young girls
The Dr. Joy Osaro Onaiwu Foundation will continue providing sponsored education and awareness programs.
