The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded its review of the petition for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. Following a physical count of the submitted signatures and thumbprints, the Commission determined that the petition failed to meet the constitutional requirement.

 

Out of 474,554 registered voters in the district, at least 237,278 valid signatures were required. However, only 208,132 signatures (43.86%) were verified, falling short by 29,146 signatories.

 

As a result, in accordance with Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), INEC has declared the recall process unsuccessful and will take no further action. A public notice detailing the findings has been issued and is available on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.
