Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Daniel Igali, has congratulated Bayelsa Queens on their outstanding achievement of winning the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title at the just-concluded Super Six playoffs in Ikenne, Ogun State.

 

The Prosperity Girls clinched their sixth league crown after a commanding 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels, finishing top of the Super Six standings with 10 points — one ahead of runners-up Nasarawa Amazons.

 

In a personally signed congratulatory message, Igali lauded the team’s exceptional performance, describing their triumph as a reflection of “talent, resilience, and unity,” while also dedicating the victory to Governor Douye Diri and Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

 

“I want to praise the players for their exceptional skills, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament,” Igali said. “This win is a testament to the hard work of the athletes, coaching staff, management, and everyone involved.”

 

He further hailed the consistent support of the Bayelsa State Government, noting that their investment in sports development is now yielding national recognition and success.

 

“I dedicate this trophy to the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for always matching words with action. This remarkable victory highlights the support we have consistently enjoyed under their leadership,” he added.

 

Looking ahead to continental action, Igali emphasized the significance of this domestic success in building momentum for CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, where Bayelsa Queens will represent Nigeria. The club holds the best-ever finish by a Nigerian team in the competition.

 

“This success is a powerful example of what can be accomplished with hard work, dedication, and passion,” Igali stated. “As we celebrate this victory, let us remember that this is only the beginning. There is much work to be done.”

 

Bayelsa Queens will now shift focus to preparing for their continental campaign, with ambitions to reach new heights and continue representing Nigeria with pride on the African stage.
