Bunmi Haruna, a two-time assistant coach of Nigeria’s U17 national team, has addressed speculation linking him with a move to Young Sports Academy (YOSA FC) of Cameroon.

The club is on the hunt for a new head coach following the exit of former Indomitable Lions boss Alexandre Belinga, after YOSA’s relegation to the second division.

Portugal-based club owner Emma Mimba has identified Haruna as a strong candidate to help restore YOSA’s status in Cameroonian football. Mimba’s interest was piqued by Haruna’s impressive performance at the EIBER Cup in Portugal, where his side, Blue Ocean FC, reached the U19 semifinals. He praised Haruna’s tactical depth and modern coaching philosophy.

Confirming discussions with Mimba, Haruna clarified that no agreement has been reached yet but expressed gratitude for the recognition:

“Yes, I spoke with the club’s president, but we are yet to agree on anything. I must thank him for this gesture because it shows the efforts I have put into developing myself have not gone unnoticed.”

Haruna also noted Mimba’s strong emphasis on tactical understanding, which he said aligned with his own coaching philosophy.

“It is my dream to coach abroad and share my philosophy and passion in a different culture, but the conditions have to be right.”

Recently certified as a CAF Instructor, Haruna joins a growing list of Nigerian coaches exploring opportunities abroad, alongside the likes of Salisu Yusuf and Oladuni Oyekale, who are currently coaching in Benin Republic.
