The Nigerian media landscape mourns the loss of a trailblazing icon, Chief Mrs. Anike Agbaje-Williams, who passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born on October 23, 1936, Chief Mrs. Agbaje-Williams (née Kuforiji) made history as Africa's first face on television, gracing the screens of Western Nigerian Television (WNTV) on its test transmission night and official opening night on October 31, 1959. She was also the first voice heard on Africa's first commercial radio station, WNBS, earning her the distinction of being "Double-First."

Throughout her illustrious career, Chief Mrs. Agbaje-Williams rose through the ranks, eventually retiring in July 1986 as a respected producer and director of programs.
