The Abia State Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), led by Joshua Chidozie Echefu, is set to stage its maiden Easter Football Tournament in a move aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents across the state.

 

The week-long competition will take place at the Umuobiakwa Police School Field from April 7 to April 14, 2026, marking a significant step in grassroots football development in Abia.

 

A total of 45 teams drawn from different parts of the state are expected to participate, creating a vibrant and competitive platform for aspiring footballers to showcase their abilities. The tournament is designed not only as a contest but as a talent discovery initiative, with scouts and football stakeholders in attendance.

 

Speaking ahead of the event, Echefu expressed optimism about the impact of the tournament, emphasizing its role in uncovering hidden talents.

 

“I am happy that we are hosting this in Abia State. There are many talented young players across our communities, and this tournament is our way of discovering and nurturing them. We want to create opportunities for these young stars to excel,” he said.

 

The GRASOF Easter Tournament will also attract talent scouts from Jaguar Football Club, who are expected to identify standout players for possible recruitment, further underlining the competition’s developmental objective.

 

Participating teams include Fireline, Pacific, Elite Fountain, Experience, Classic, Livinpop, Mayor, Billie, Life, Guinness, Njaka, Rock, Sunshine, Brightstars, Emirates, Warriors, Ahead Eagles, Golden Knights, Real Madrid, Golden Boys, Olympians, Abbey, Rising Stars, Harrison, Young Stars, Rukky, Ovid, Sammy, Champions, Golden City, Greater Tomorrow, Pepsi, Otangele Boys, Future Stars, Rivers of Life, Austino, Tiger Boys, Peculiar Boys, and Atlantic Lions.

 

Beyond the competition, the initiative highlights GRASOF’s commitment to youth empowerment, community engagement, and the long-term growth of football in Abia State. The maiden edition is widely expected to set the tone for future tournaments and inspire a new generation of football talents to pursue their dreams.
