Scouts monitoring the maiden Nigerian Youth League will undoubtedly be keeping close tabs on Enyimba U-19 captain and defensive colossus, Gabtony Okechukwu. 

Considered by many to be the best defensive player in the NYL this season as the young Elephants have dominated possessions in all 9 matches during the first round, Gabtony Okechukwu has consistently taken his game to a new level with unlimited appearances.

While his defensive alongside his leadership qualities have never been in doubt, the young defender has radically improved his distribution and having adjusted well to coach Akuma Joe's back four, the 18-yr-old can comfortably play as number 4 in front of the back four, thanks largely to his trademark progressive play. 

His leadership virtues was visibly felt at Papilo FC as the captain at different cadets, ranging from U-13, U-19 and now also a leader of the Enyimba youth set up, a testament to hardwork and dedication when being called upon. 

Progressively, when being saddled as a defensive midfielder, he is exceptionally disciplined, picks up possession, presses the opposition and shifts the ball quickly and purposefully. A scenario that has orchestrated his side's lion share of possession during the league's first round prior to the mid-season break.

A supremely talented flair player, notably the variation and precision in his forward passes are of commendable standard. He is energetic and disciplined enough to track back, press and regain possession through pinpoint tackles ( 2+ successful per 90 minutes). 

A delight to watch, on the evidence of his impressive first round performance in the ongoing Nigerian Youth League, there's every chance that Gabtony Okechukwu toe the pathway of consistency as the team's influential captain on his way to a European league. 

His name is Gabtony Okechukwu; a defensive colossus bound for giant strides.
