Dare Adesomo, head coach of Abuja-based Division 2 side Kickers FC, says friendly matches are less about results and more about player development and building team cohesion.

In a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, Adesomo emphasized that friendly games serve as vital tools for testing tactics, identifying weaknesses, and grooming young talents.

"The goal isn’t necessarily to win but to assess our players, sharpen our strategy, and build team chemistry,” he said. “We’ve faced strong teams like the Flying Eagles, City FC, EFCC FC, and Sarkin Daji FC. Though we didn’t win those matches, the experience has been invaluable.”

Adesomo stressed that each match, regardless of the outcome, offers his players a chance to gain experience, improve teamwork, and develop critical skills.

“These games have helped us grow mentally and tactically. They’ve boosted the players' confidence and shown us areas to improve ahead of official competitions,” he added.

Looking ahead, Coach Adesomo revealed that Kickers FC is preparing for the upcoming AMAC Coaches Council Football Tournament and the State League, both set for May.

“We’re building a team capable of competing at the highest level, and I’m confident we’ll make a strong impression in the coming tournaments,” he said.

The club also has its sights set on an upcoming tour of Europe, which Adesomo believes will further enhance the players’ exposure and development.

“This focus on growth over results will pay off. We’re laying a solid foundation for the future of Kickers FC,” he concluded.
