Former Nollywood actress Grace Bassey, widely known in her acting days as Belinda Effah, has officially joined the United States Navy and become a citizen of the United States—marking a bold and inspiring new chapter in her life journey.

The 33-year-old actress took to her social media platforms to announce the milestone, sharing a photo of herself in full Navy uniform. In an emotional message, she expressed gratitude to God, her family, and everyone who supported her through the transition.

“Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” Bassey wrote. “Nigeria raised me, America challenged me, and I stand today stronger and more determined than ever. Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning. In honour of my late father – Naval Cdr. Asido Bassey Effah.”

The former screen star’s decision to change her name from Belinda Effah to Grace Bassey also came from a deeply personal and spiritual transformation. She previously revealed that after a divine encounter, she came to understand that the name “Belinda,” which she says means “beautiful serpent,” no longer aligned with her renewed identity and mission.

“God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she explained, adding that the change reflected a spiritual rebranding rather than a shift in her core identity or values.
