Failed Transfer Talks Left Nwabali Clubless — Etafia Reveals

Former Nigeria international goalkeeper Greg Etafia has clarified the situation surrounding Super Eagles shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali, revealing that unsuccessful transfer negotiations—not a lack of interest—are responsible for the goalkeeper’s current clubless status.

Nwabali, who gained national recognition as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, has been without a club following his departure from Chippa United. His omission from the latest Super Eagles squad has further fueled speculation about his future.

However, Etafia, who has been working closely with Nwabali as his personal trainer, dismissed claims that the goalkeeper was overlooked in the transfer market. According to him, multiple clubs showed strong interest in signing the player during the Africa Cup of Nations.

“There were offers,” Etafia stated, explaining that negotiations ultimately collapsed because interested clubs could not reach an agreement with Chippa United.

The situation has reportedly been a frustrating one for Nwabali, whose impressive performances on the international stage had raised expectations of a swift move to a new club.

Etafia also confirmed that the goalkeeper was disappointed by his exclusion from the national team for the current international window, especially given his availability as a free agent.

“He was hurt,” Etafia revealed, underscoring the emotional toll of the setback.

Despite the challenges, there appears to be renewed hope. Etafia disclosed that fresh offers have now emerged, with Nwabali expected to decide on his next move at the end of the current season.

As the transfer window approaches, attention will be firmly on Nwabali’s next destination, with many expecting the talented goalkeeper to secure a club that matches his growing reputation.
