Maureen Mmadu, a former Super Falcons midfielder and later Assistant Coach, has revealed she has accepted the apology from one Mr Uchenna Onyekwunife who masterminded the Anti Cult Police Invasion of her football academy camp in Ozubu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State in October 2024, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Mr Onyekwunife had enrolled her young daughter into the now famous Maureen Mmadu Football Academy but trouble started when the little girl refused to enter a cab sent by her father to bring her back home.

But the enraged father who could not accept Maureen Mmadu's humble and passionate offer to bring the girl home to her father was shocked to the marrow when Mr Onyekwunife petitioned the Anti Cult Police at Ukpo, Dunukofia LGA, who promptly invaded the camp and whisked the ex Nigeria international and 
'Mother of the Nation’ Merit Award winner away in handcuffs like a common criminal, leaving no fewer than seven Android phones belonging to the players damaged as well as injuries to some of the players.

After proving her innocence at the Anti Cult Police Office in Ukpo, the former Avaldsnes FC of Norway coach took her fight for justice to the Zone 13 Police in Ukpo and later to the Police Command Headquarters at Awka.

But there appears to have been light at the dark end of the tunnel as Mmadu and her traducer, Onyekwunife, appear to have agreed to sheath the dagger and allow peace to reign.

Maureen Madu, who was decorated with the exalted award of 'Mother Of The Nation' by Nigeria First Lady's, Senator Oluremi Tinubu on the occasion marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's one year in office, said on Sunday that she has accepted the olive branch waved by Onyekwunife through his apology letter.

Onyekwunife in his letter of apology said he regretted the misunderstanding and embarrassment arising from his actions after enrolling her daughter in the ‘Maureen Madu Football’ Academy.
 
He thanked Mmadu for her  kind disposition to the amicable resolution of the issues and accepting to continue to impact football skills to his daughter as well as mentoring his daughter.
 
“Contrary to what I was told, I've come to realise that you run a credible football academy and champion youths development through sports", Onyekwunife's Apology letter reads in part.
 
“I pledge to support Maureen Mmadu Football Academy in any way I can to ensure the objectives of the Academy were realised,”the apology letter concluded.
 
However, Maureen said she decided to move on after some elders in her community prevailed on her following oral and written apology from Onyekwunife.
 
She said she could not put the future of the little Onyekwunife in jeopardy by rejecting her and continuing to be in crisis with her father when he had sincerely expressed regret for his actions.
 
The multiple African Women Championship title winner with Super Falcons  said she remained committed to helping the girl child and encouraging them to become good footballers in future, adding that she was withdrawing the case from wherever it had been reported to and closing the matter with the hope that such incident would not repeat again.
 
“I feel primed by the whole saga which has lasted for six months. To err is human, and to forgive is divine. He has apologised and my community people have intervened, so we just have to move on.
 
“The girl is still interested in football, the father told me how eager she is to come back and I cannot stop her from pursuing her passion.
 
“I want to specially thank everyone, the media, Coaches Connect, TV stations for their solidarity as well as the parents of my players for their understanding and support,” she said.
