Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced his first provisional squad, featuring a mix of established stars and fresh faces ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
The goalkeeping department includes Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), who impressed at the AFCON 2023, alongside Maduka Okoye (Udinese), Amas Obasogie (Singida Blackstars), Adeleye Adebayo (Enosis Paralimni), and Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars).
In defense, experienced players like William Troost-Ekong, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Calvin Bassey return, while newcomers such as Gabriel Osho (AJ Auxerre) and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi (Rangers International) get their first invitations.
The midfield is led by Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, Fulham’s Alex Iwobi, and Southampton’s Joe Aribo, with Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also included. Rising star Papa Daniel Mustapha (Niger Tornadoes) is a surprise addition.
Upfront, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman headline the attacking options, alongside in-form Bayer Leverkusen duo Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella. Veteran forward Ahmed Musa makes a return, while Jerome Akor Adams (Sevilla) earns a call-up.
Chelle’s squad features a blend of experience and youthful energy, indicating his intent to refresh the team while maintaining a strong core. The final squad will be trimmed before the Super Eagles’ crucial upcoming matches.
