Enyimba FC, former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has officially unveiled 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Brown Ideye as their latest signing.

The Aba-based club announced the acquisition via their social media platforms, expressing excitement over adding the experienced striker to their squad.

“We are delighted to officially announce the addition of former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, to our fold,” the club stated.

Born on October 10, 1988, Brown Ideye is a Nigerian professional footballer who has enjoyed an illustrious career both locally and internationally. Starting with Bayelsa United, Ideye gained early recognition after helping Ocean Boys win the Nigerian Premier League.

In 2008, he moved to Europe, signing with Swiss Super League club Neuchâtel Xamax after a trial with Willem II. His journey later took him to clubs like Sochaux (France), Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine), and Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda, among others.

Ideye has represented Nigeria across various levels:

• 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup: Played five matches and scored against Costa Rica.

• 2010 FIFA World Cup: Initially excluded but was later called up after John Obi Mikel’s injury.

• 2013 Africa Cup of Nations: Played a key role in Nigeria’s victorious campaign, including scoring in the semi-final against Mali and featuring in the final win over Burkina Faso.

This signing marks a homecoming for the former NPFL champion, who began his career domestically. Enyimba FC will look to leverage Ideye’s experience and goal-scoring prowess as they aim to defend their league title and make an impact in continental competitions.

Brown Ideye’s return is not just a boost for Enyimba but also a testament to the growing appeal of the NPFL in attracting seasoned players back home.
