Eid-el-fitr: SWAN Celebrates With Muslims, Seeks More Investment In Nigeria's Sports Development

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Wednesday congratulated Muslim Ummah, especially media professionals on the occasion of Eid-el-fitr celebration across the country and beyond.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement, conveyed through a statement by the Association's Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, prayed that the blessings of Allah which radiated during the month-long Ramadan spread continuously.

He noted that the Eid-el-fitr being as auspicious day, should reaffirm the commitment Sports Writers in promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding in "our resolve to champion a professional association which all will be proud of.

"Let us embrace the essence of Eid-Fitr by extending kindness to one another and standing together in solidarity against all forms of divisiveness.

"May this Sallah celebration bring abundant blessings, joy, and prosperity to us all. We wish all Nigerians a happy, peaceful and  joy-filled Sallah celebration.

"I urge Sports Writers to remain united and recommit themselves to intense prayers for the development of Sports in Nigeria as well as the present SWAN leadership, just as we remember to keep the spirit of Ramadan alive in our hearts and minds.

“May Allah (SWT) continue to guide us, protect us, and bless us with strength and perseverance in the face of challenges. May He grant us wisdom and understanding to work together towards building a peaceful and prosperous SWAN."

The SWAN also used the occasion to call on all hands to be on deck in ensuring more investment that will uplift Sports in Nigeria, "any investment in Sports development makes direct impact in human development, so no effort should be spared in increasing budget meant for Sports.

"The idea of delaying payments of earned allowances and rewards due to our Sports men and women as well as officials weeks after representing and making the country proud at international competitions should be discouraged and addressed going forward by concerned authorities at all levels."
