EFCC Probes Alleged N10bn Abia Airport Fund Misappropriation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N10 billion earmarked for the Abia Airport project by the immediate past administration in Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti disclosed this during his February media chat on Friday night, stating that the anti-graft agency is actively probing the matter and has begun inviting individuals whose bank accounts reportedly received portions of the funds.

According to the governor, his administration formally petitioned the commission following the outcome of a forensic audit which uncovered alleged irregularities in the management of funds allocated to the airport project.

He explained that the audit findings raised serious concerns about how the N10 billion earmarked for the project was disbursed, prompting the state government to seek the intervention of the EFCC to ensure accountability.

Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and prudent management of public resources, stressing that any individual found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement detailing the scope of the investigation or the identities of those invited for questioning.
