Francis Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, has suspended indefinitely the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam, and the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, over alleged dereliction of duties.

 

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Sunday in a statement issued by the Governor’s office in Abakaliki. The action, according to the statement, followed concerns about the pace and quality of ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.

 

Governor Nwifuru reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the affected commissioners, stressing that his administration remains committed to delivering critical road and infrastructure projects within stipulated timelines. He warned that any appointee found wanting in the discharge of assigned responsibilities would be held accountable.

 

“The government will not tolerate negligence or lack of commitment in the execution of projects that directly impact the welfare and development of our people,” the statement read.

 

While the specific details of the alleged infractions were not disclosed, sources within the Government House indicated that the decision was reached after a review of several key infrastructure projects currently underway.

 

The governor has directed the suspended officials to hand over to the most senior permanent secretaries in their respective ministries pending further investigations.

 

The development has sparked reactions among political stakeholders and residents, with many describing the move as a strong signal of the administration’s resolve to enforce discipline and ensure effective service delivery.

 

As of press time, neither Mbam nor Abara had publicly responded to the suspension.
