The 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six will begin today at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. 

Nasarawa Amazons will have a face off with Heartland Queens in one of the matches of the day. 

Both teams were evenly matched during the regular season, each securing a narrow 1-0 victory in their home fixtures. Nasarawa Amazons claimed the first encounter with a goal from Bibiana Odoh, while Heartland Queens responded in the return leg with a decisive goal from Mary Lucky in Owerri.

Nasarawa Amazons are returning to the Super Six after missing out last season. Their previous best performance was a second-place finish in the 2021/2022 season behind Bayelsa Queens in Benin City, Edo State. Under the guidance of Christopher Danjuma, the team secured their Super Six spot with eight wins during the regular season.

Heartland Queens, on the other hand, are making their first-ever Super Six appearance. Confluence Queens are making a consecutive appearance at the Super Six after finishing fourth last season, while Edo Queens have been a consistent presence in the tournament since the 2020/2021 season. The Lokoja-based outfit won seven of their 14 regular season games, matching the record of the Benin City-based Edo Queens.

However, Sabo Okala’s Confluence only suffered three losses during the regular season, compared to five losses for Moses Aduku’s Edo.

Edo Queens hold a slight edge in their head-to-head record, boasting three wins, two losses, and a draw in their last six meetings with Confluence Queens.

The last encounter between these teams at the previous Super Six in Asaba, Delta State, saw Chukwuamaka Osigwe score the decisive goal. Osigwe has since joined Edo Queens, after previously scoring three goals against her current team while with Confluence Queens in their last three matches.
