Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has climbed to 8th place in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

This marks a historic achievement for the team, who continue to dominate African women’s basketball and now cement their place among the global elite.

The jump in rankings comes on the heels of their record-extending seventh Women’s AfroBasket title, which also marked an unprecedented fifth consecutive championship victory, with the latest triumph secured earlier this year in 2025.

D’Tigress’ consistent excellence has not only earned them continental glory but also qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, adding to their growing global reputation.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Great Britain dropped two spots to 22nd, while Belgium entered the top five following their recent EuroBasketWomen triumph. South Sudan recorded the biggest leap, moving up 31 places to 55th, reflecting the rising standards across African basketball.

Meanwhile, the United States remains the world’s No. 1 ranked team, continuing their long-standing dominance in women’s basketball.

D’Tigress’ rise to 8th is a significant milestone for Nigerian basketball and a reflection of years of investment, talent development, and sheer determination on the part of players and coaching staff.
