Draws for 20th Gwagwalada Football League Hold Friday at Govt. Day Secondary School

The draws for the 20th edition of the Gwagwalada Football League are set to take place on Friday, September 5, at the Government Day Secondary School, Gwagwalada, marking the official countdown to one of the longest-running community football leagues in the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Ngwaogu (popularly known as Odogwu), confirmed the development, stating that 25 teams have so far registered to participate in the landmark edition.
According to him, the teams will be grouped into four pools for the first round, from which qualifiers will advance to another group stage before the eventual champions emerge.
“We are proud to be celebrating the 20th edition of this grassroots league. All logistics have been put in place for a successful tournament. The official kickoff date will be announced at the draws on Friday,” Ngwaogu said.
The Gwagwalada Football League, which began in 2005, has grown steadily in stature over the years, serving as a vital platform for talent discovery in the FCT and beyond. The inaugural edition was won by Lion Heart FC and was sponsored by the then Under the Wave Hotel.
This year’s edition, being the 20th, is expected to attract increased attention from football scouts, community leaders, and lovers of grassroots football, with expectations of high-level competition and standout performances from young talents across the Area Council.
