Nigeria’s Flamingos despite being ousted by USA at the quarterfinals 2-0 on Monday morning won the world women’s U17 world cup FAIR PLAY trophy though the team were already back in Nigeria.

Nigeria was adjudged by officials of the tournament to have been the most gentle and friendly team of the tournament. One of the hall mark of Nigeria’s participation was her record of attracting the highest ever capacity crowd to watch any football match in the Dominican Republic when the West African country faced the hosts and attracted a crowd of  13,535 fans.

Jon Il-Chong of North Korea was the BEST Player of the tournament and got the Golden Ball; Pau Comedador Prado was 2nd best and got the Silver ball while Celia Segura won the Bronze ball. 

The Golden Boot for the highest Scorer went to Pau Prado who scored five goals; Kennedy Fuller won the Siler Boot having scored four goals and Celia Segura won the Bronze Boot also with four goals. 

Nigeria’s Shakirat Moshood and Rim-Jong Choe who first hit four goals mark each lost because their assists were lower.

The Golden Glove for the Best Goalkeeper went to Evan O’Steen of the USA who team won the 3rd Place match. 

USA filed out to receive their Bronze medals and then Spain who filed out in mourning before the world champions North Korea came for their gold medals.

Ref Delane Muniz of Brazil who handled the final match led the officials including the VAR officials to collect their medals.

Next tournament will take place in Morocco, Africa next year with 24 teams participating instead of the current 16 and henceforth the competition will be annually instead of bi-annually.
