Nigeria Legend, Nwankwo Kanu on Tuesday visited Heartland Football Club during their evening training at the Practice Pitch of Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The former Ajax Amsterdam and Arsenal of London leggy forward addressed the players and officials of the club after their training session, saying he came to commiserate with the club over the unfortunate passing of Obi.

"Yes, my coming here today is mainly in connection with Christian Obi's death", starts 'Papilo' when cornered by Exclusivenews.com.ng.

"It's a sad, painful and unexpected news. When I heard it, it wasn't pleasant to the ear nor to the mind. It wasn't something to take home. So, I had to come by myself, physically, to be with them (Heartland players and officials).

I've spoken with the Technical Manager(Emmanuel Amuneke MFR). He's my bosses friend. I've also spoken to other players and management members that I know. And today, I find it good to come and be with them and console them", the FIFA and UNICEF Ambassador said before going on to speak about his personal relationship with the late Christian Obi.

"Of course, he's been there (in the game) before us. He's one of the people we look up to . Since he's been with Heartland, we do communicate and I even met him in Aba when Enyimba played against Heartland. And we talked. But unfortunately, what happened happened.

"Everyone of us has to be part of the mourning and also console them, especially the family. May his soul rest in peace", the Executive Chairman of Enyimba Management Committee prayed.
