Despite a state-imposed ban on political rallies and restrictions on convoys, thousands of supporters flooded Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, on Tuesday to welcome Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

 

In a dramatic display, the senator arrived by helicopter, stunning the waiting crowd, who had gathered in front of her country home since morning. Supporters, waving placards and chanting in solidarity, openly defied police warnings and a curfew imposed by the Okehi Local Government Chairman, Amoka Monday.

 

The Kogi State Government’s ban on public gatherings had raised tensions, with security forces citing concerns over potential unrest. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan remained resolute, insisting on her right to visit her hometown.

 

Earlier, she had issued a strong statement on social media, warning that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello should be held responsible if violence erupted during her Sallah celebrations.

 

Addressing the jubilant crowd in her native Egbira language, Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to her people.

 

“This is my home, this is my town. Nobody can stop me from coming home. I am the daughter of the late Dr. Abdul Akpoti.”
