Finalists have been decided for the 2024 edition of the Onitsha Ex-Footballers in Diaspora (ONEFID) U17 competition, taking place at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha, according to Exclusivenews.com.ng.

Anambra FA Cup champions, Ozalla Football Academy, showcased their reputation for dead-ball expertise on Saturday, converting two free kicks during regulation time to secure a 3-3 draw against Michael FC before triumphing 3-0 in a penalty shootout in the semi-final.

The Ikenna Osueke-led Ozalla FA had a sluggish start, conceding a goal just 75 seconds after kickoff as Michael FC capitalized on their defensive disorganization. However, Ozalla’s set-piece prowess came into play when Ogili Chimezie equalized from a free kick near the penalty area.

Michael FC quickly regained the lead and doubled their advantage midway through the first half, leaving Ozalla trailing 3-1. Chukwuebuka Ukachukwu then pulled one back for Ozalla before halftime, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

After a halftime pep talk, Ozalla FA returned with renewed vigor, dominating the second half and pinning Michael FC into their defensive half. Their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when Chukwuebuka Ukachukwu scored a stunning free-kick equalizer to make it 3-3.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Ozalla displayed nerves of steel, converting their first three kicks through Ogili Chimezie, Okoye Chidera, and Chukwuebuka Ukachukwu. In contrast, Michael FC missed all three of their attempts, sealing Ozalla’s victory.

With their semi-final victory, Ozalla FA has booked a place in the ONEFID Cup final, where they will face Olive Charles FA at the Godwin Achebe Stadium on January 8, 2025.

The clash promises to be a thrilling encounter as Ozalla FA, bolstered by their set-piece precision, look to clinch the prestigious U17 title.
