Uncertainty continues to trail Enyimba Football Club following the emergence of parallel appointments to key technical positions, raising concerns among fans and stakeholders of Nigeria’s most decorated football club.

The latest controversy centres on the appointment of two Sporting Directors. The club’s management had earlier announced former Super Eagles captain, Uche Okechukwu, as Sporting Director after the resignation of Mr. Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who held the role for three seasons. However, the Abia State Government has now approved Mr. Daniel Eke as the new Sporting Director of the Aba-based side.

The situation mirrors a previous leadership tussle in the coaching department, where the state government announced Emmanuel Deutsch as Head Coach shortly after the club management had given Deji Ayeni  the same role.

In a statement, the Abia State Government said the appointment of Daniel Eke forms part of decisive reforms aimed at restoring Enyimba International FC to its former glory. The government noted that the club, a two-time CAF Champions League winner and one of Africa’s biggest football brands, has struggled in recent times and currently sits 12th on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2025/26 table.

Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, approved Eke’s appointment following the resignation of Mr. Ekwueme, emphasizing the need to strengthen Enyimba’s administrative and technical structures, improve professionalism, and enhance financial sustainability.

Daniel Eke, a product of Enyimba’s feeder team, brings a wealth of experience in football management, scouting, and player development. His career spans roles as Scouting Director and Manager for Enyimba’s NPL team, Football Agent, Special Consultant to the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, managerial positions at Rivers United and Abia Warriors, and scouting duties with Rangers International FC, Enugu.

Eke has earned multiple accolades for his contributions to African football, including Most Successful Football Agent in Africa (2020), Most Successful Football Agent in Nigeria (2020), and Highest Goal Scorer Manager recognition for Chijioke Akenato. He is widely praised for helping players rise from lower leagues to top-flight football and successfully transitioning academy talents into professional careers.

The Abia State Government expressed confidence that Eke’s technical expertise and extensive football network would help reposition Enyimba as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football.

Clarifying the leadership structure, the government stated that while Uche Okechukwu remains a duly appointed member of the Enyimba FC Board, Daniel Eke will assume full responsibility as Sporting Director.

Despite the current uncertainty, stakeholders remain hopeful that the latest development will stabilize the club and set Enyimba FC on a path to reclaiming its status as a global football brand and a symbol of pride for Abia State.
