One civic group wey dey fight for democracy, Citizens’ Action for Democratic Restoration (CADR), don call out President Bola Tinubu and Federal Government, say make dem end the emergency rule for Rivers State sharp sharp.

The group, led by Dr. Maryleen Ebere Okoro, yarn say the emergency rule wey start since March 18 don scatter the constitution and worsen wahala for the oil-rich state.

 

Dem vex well-well say the appointment of retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator na “reckless over-sabi” wey don silence the will of the people and break down all democratic structures.

“For where! This one no be intervention again, na occupation! The man don suspend courts, no dey answer law, and dey threaten people wey wan protest peacefully,” Dr. Okoro talk for statement wey dem release on Saturday for Port Harcourt.

 

She talk say since dem announce the emergency rule, plenty things don go wrong:

• Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, him deputy and House of Assembly don suspend.

• Political appointees and state officials don sack anyhow.

• Local government chairmen dey replaced with people wey dem just handpick.

• Women wey dey protest peacefully don dey tear-gas like say dem be criminals.

 

“Rivers don turn to dictatorship under federal government eye. Nigerians dey watch with shock as democracy dey die slowly,” she talk.

 

Dr. Okoro talk say make nobody deceive dem say na peace dem dey pursue, say any government wey dey tear-gas women wey dey hold placards don already lose moral right to lead.

 

She also blast President Tinubu for keeping quiet while wahala dey spread. According to her, if dem really want peace, dem for call traditional rulers, civil society, and elected officials sit down talk. But instead, dem choose to impose and divide.

 

“Today na Rivers. Tomorrow fit be any other state wey get political issue. If one person fit replace whole government by Federal power, wetin remain for democracy?” she ask.

 

The group come beg President Tinubu make e:

• Cancel the emergency rule,

• Reinstate Governor Fubara,

• And start proper peace talk based on law and constitution.
