Rivers United Football Club have officially kicked off preparations for the 2025/26 football season, as the Port Harcourt-based side aim to build on their impressive performance in the recently concluded campaign.

Under the leadership of  Technical Manager, Finidi George, the team held their first full training session on Monday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Approximately 25 players were present as activities resumed following the off-season break.

Welcoming the squad back, Coach Finidi charged the players to remain focused and committed to the task ahead. “I welcome you back from the off-season break. Now it’s time to get ourselves ready for the challenges ahead. Welcome back,” he said in his first official address to the team.

Rivers United finished second in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, securing a place in the CAF Champions League. Although the draw for the continental competition is yet to be announced, the team is already laying the groundwork for a strong campaign both at home and in Africa.

The club’s technical crew and support staff were also on hand to oversee the commencement of the first phase of training, which will focus on fitness, tactical drills, and team cohesion.

With the new NPFL season scheduled to kick off in August, Rivers United are setting their sights on challenging for the league title and making a deep run in the CAF Champions League.
